The Electrolux Flatshare Refrigerator: A Solution For Food Fights

The Electrolux Flatshare Refrigerator: A Solution For Food Fights

Food and drink are precious commodities, especially when it comes to having to store them in the same refrigerator and freezer space as roommates. You know those ones who have 'different' appetites and cleanliness habits. Whether you are sharing an apartment, a house, or a room with workmates or classmates, having a personal space for your own food supply is often a matter of necessity.

You may desire your own storage space for your particular and unique culinary delights. How do you store your food supply when those friends of yours are hogging the refrigerator with their uninspired food and drink choices? You invest in a refrigerator that has specific modules for each person who resides on the premises.

The new Electrolux Flatshare Refrigerator is an innovative product that gives you your own space for your all-natural, processed, or whatever else kind of food you enjoy. No longer do you have to store your exquisite delectables alongside someone else's less-than-fresh rutabaga or rapidly deteriorating corn dog. This modular refrigerator guarantees you your own personal, safe, sanitary, and organized refrigerator and freezer space.

The concept behind the Electrolux Flatshare Refrigerator is simple. The modular fridge as a whole is made up of separate pieces or compartments. They are stackable, one on top of the other. In essence, each roommate has their own mini-fridge; however, they are not stored in separate rooms. They are part of one refrigerator unit in one space that takes up the same amount of space as a traditional refrigerator does.

Stefan Buchberger from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna is the brains behind the Flatshare fridge. He created it and it was an entry in the Electrolux Design Lab competition, which is held yearly. Each stackable module or compartment that comprises the Flatshare Refrigerator is suitable for one individual. There is a taller section for bottles and cartons and a section for fruits, vegetables, and packaged meats and the like. In addition, there is a section for frozen foods as well. Each person's module comes equipped with handles on the side for portability.

What's great about this kind of refrigerator is that it allows you some sort of individuality concerning the storing of your precious food. It also means that the smell of your roommate's anchovy pizza won't seep into your ultra-decadent triple fudge cookie ice cream. Each refrigerator configuration, as a whole appliance, consists of a base unit and can employ up to four of the stackable modules. Each person's storage unit can be a different color. An individual can also choose to add accessories to their particular module. This could be a bottle opener or a small bulletin board in front.

The Electrolux Flatshare Refrigerator is one of the nine finalists in the Electrolux Design Lab 2008 competition. This competition has garnered 600 entries from 49 countries. Undergraduate and graduate industrial design students received invitation to create and design appliance concepts geared to the Internet generation.

This far-out refrigerator is the perfect peacekeeping device for those who fight over refrigerator space. It's a sure way to keep one's food in one's own territory. While it doesn't guarantee against pilfering from those friend's of yours with voracious appetites, it does guarantee your food will stay stored where you like it-the way you like it.
