Video Games Improve Social Skills

Video Games Improve Social PerformanceIt’s the news that all kids have been waiting for and all parents will attempt to censor from their children. Apparently, according to a recent report, computer and console gaming holds the key to social development and improved social interaction skills. That/’s quite a step from the days when gamers were seen as being social pariahs and outcasts with no friends (I remember the days bitterly).

Other findings included the fact that 99% of boys and 94% of girls aged between 12 and 17 play some form of game. The most popular was, perhaps unsurprisingly, the ridiculously popular Guitar Hero III while other popular performers included Halo III and Madden NFL. The survey considered over 1,000 children from various backgrounds and socio economic groups.

The report went on to note that three quarters of gamers played games against other people, whether it was online or offline. In one of a series of findings that are bound to anger “that” section of society that would like to condemn all gamers to a burning pit, the report stated that increased gaming did not mean decreased social skills and even the heaviest gamer was still inclined to spend time in social environments and that it may actually lead to children becoming more socially responsible.
